Lethal Leicester Dispatch Local Rivals Derby
Leicester City Women extended their unbeaten run to six games as they comfortably dispatched Derby County Ladies by four goals to nil at the Farley Way Stadium, courtesy of a Domingo Double, with additional goals from Leigh Dugmore and Kim Farrow.
The Foxes started brightly, with Nicole Nymoen and Rosie Axten both flashing strikes into the side netting from the edge of the box, but the best chance of the opening exchanges fell to Derby striker Andi Bell who flashed over from six yards out.
Leicester grew into the game as the first half progressed, with Ellie May inches away from turning in a Rosie Axten cross on 15 minutes. Leicester’s reward for their dogged attacking play came in the 18th minute through young striker Sophie Domingo. An excellent forward run and slotted ball by Foxes Captain Holly Morgan was squared by Rosie Axten, where Domingo was waiting to turn home to open the scoring. The young Leicester striker is making a habit of scoring against Derby, having netted the 93rd minute equalizer in a 1-1 draw just 22 days previous.
Derby County were lucky to finish the first half with eleven on the field, with goalkeeper Sarah Morgan only seeing yellow for bringing down Sophie Domingo following a quick break from an opposition corner.
Leicester started the second half very brightly, with Domingo and Ellie May linking well to cause the Derby defence problems.
The lead was doubled soon after the break for Leicester when Ellie May played a pinpoint thirty-yard-pass over the head of Ram’s defender into the feet of Sophie Domingo, who turned the defender and slotted the ball into the far corner, taking her goal tally to seven in the opening ten games.
It was plain sailing from there on in for Leicester, with an excellent cross from Sophie Domingo being turned in with a wonderful glancing header from Leigh Dugmore, netting her fourth league goal of the season so far.
Further misery was inflicted on Derby just ten minutes from time, when second half substitute Kim Farrow chased down a loose touch from Ram’s keeper Sarah Morgan, only for the clearance to be deflected off of the oncoming Farrow, leaving a simple tap into an empty net.
A very convincing performance with lethal attacking play leaves Leicester unbeaten in six and second in the division.
